A professional 3 year course for Stage Design and Scenic Painting in the renown Studio Schmidbauer. The practical focus of the program aims to immediately introduce the students to high level international productions for theater, opera, musical, film, TV. An unique opportunity to start an artistic career and learn a practical profession.

Funded in 2007, the academy of scenic painting and arts is the educational platform of the Studio Schmidbauer, where maximum five students per year are professionally trained as scenic painters and stage designers. The course, curated by Werner Schmidbauer, acclaimed author of scenes and stages for major international productions since four decades, and managed by his son and artist Maximilian Magnus, takes place in the beautiful estate of Kulturegg, the Allgäu art center. Other short courses and workshops in painting and sculpting techniques take place every month for the public (visit the News section (link) for updates).

The academy provides both a theoretical and practical education, and immediately involves the students into the studio’s current projects for theatre, musical, film and TV. As the academy selects a maximum of five students annually, the training is very personalized, and the work atmosphere shaped around team building and familiarity.

Students and teachers create together stage prospects of all sizes for theatre, film and television integrating different techniques like architectural and anatomic drawing and painting, marble imitation, glazing, use of swabs and scrapers, and much more.

The apprenticeship is completed by an approved chamber of commerce and industry (CCI) test.

The students admitted to the academy begin in March/April or September/October. The holidays follow the Bavarian school calendar.
